About Place
Uperkot Fort is believed to be built by Chandragupta in 319 BC and is one of the oldest regions of Junagadh. It is popular for withstanding the conquest attempt that lasted for 12 years at Junagadh. The caves found here are believed to be from the 1st and the 4th century AD and have exquisite carvings and pillars. The fort, due to its strategic location, is believed to have survived 16 blockages over a period of 1000 years.
Another popular attraction of this place is the 300 ft moat where one can spot crocodiles. The fort is full of amazing crests of Uparkot rulers along with temples of Ganesh, Hanuman and Shakti.
