About Place
One of the most notable places of Madhya Pradesh, Shesh Shaiya, is believed to be the origin place of the river Charanganga. The place is famous for the 65 feet tall statue of Lord Vishnu in the sleeping posture on the seven-headed snake, Shesh Naag.
The statue is located near a green pool of water where even the water is considered sacred by the locals. One can catch a glimpse of many bird species including the Malabar Pied Hornbill near this place. This is the only place in the whole forest which can be explored on foot by tourists. It is also believed that the statue of Lord Vishnu is guarding the jungle of Bandhavgarh.
The green colour of the water was assumed to be blue-green algae but surprisingly it was the cyanobacteria. The communities of cyanobacteria produce more than 60% of world oxygen which is why the few top inches of the water is covered by these air-breathing bacteria.
