Nalsarovar Lake is a paradise of birds and is a famous tourist attraction in Gujarat. The lake and the wetlands around it were declared a bird sanctuary in 1969. The lake is stretched in an area of 120 sq km and is famous for its wide range of bird species including migratory birds. The lake accommodates around 210 bird species during the winter season. Black Buck and Wild Ass are a few mammalian species that can be found here.
The migratory bird population here include rosy pelicans, flamingoes, white storks, brahminy ducks and herons. The lake harbours around 250 bird species of which purple moorhen, pelicans, lesser flamingos and greater flamingos, white storks, four species of bitterns, crakes, grebes, brahminy ducks(Ruddy shelduck) and herons are the winter migrants. The lake is open to visitors from 6 am to 5:30 pm.
