About Place
Frog temple is situated in the town of Oel in Lakhimpur and is locally known as Menduk mandir. It is built behind a giant structure of a frog and is devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple is still not popular amongst tourists but holds great significance. The story of the temple is around a king named Bakhat Singh who was blessed by a frog which was passed on to his next generations. This is the reason behind the formation of a frog temple in honour of that frog. Even today, the descendants of the king hold the management of the temple.
The architecture of the temple is worth a visit. It looks as if the frog is carrying the entire temple on its back. Just behind it, stands the shrine of Lord Shiva at a height that can be accessed via stairs. According to the tantric vaidya, the temple is built on an octagonal lotus and the walls is full of the carvings of Tantrik gods and goddesses.
