Lying in the tropical belt, the park experiences a tropical climate. Kaziranga is generally great through summers as well as winters. For wildlife tours, summers and winters are the best time to visit Kaziranga; while monsoon is a season to be avoided.

Summer (February to May)
During the summer months, the park remains open for tourists. However, it is not considered the ideal time for visiting the park as the weather tends to be hot, humid and sultry. Temperature tends to hover around 37°C. For those who want to avoid the rush of peak season and avail of off-season hotel discounts, summer is a good time to visit.

Monsoon (June to October)
Monsoon arrives in Kaziranga in the month of June and it is recommended to avoid planning any trips during this season. It has been estimated that the area receives approximately 2200 mm of rainfall between June and September. With the Brahmaputra River flowing close by, the water levels rise dangerously, causing floods. Almost 3/4 portion of the western part of the park remains submerged in water during this period.

Winter (November to January)
Winters are considered the best time to visit Kaziranga. With temperatures ranging between 5°C and 25°C, the weather is mild and pleasant for tourists to explore the park. For bird lovers, this is the best time as hundreds and thousands of birds migrate to the park from neighbouring mountains in search of warmer climates.
